Fall - The Perfect Time to Fertilize

Most avid gardeners know that fall is a great time to fertilize the lawn as well shrubs and trees.  It seems that every manufacture of fertilizer has a fall fertilizer available and if you notice, not a one of them is the same formula. That may lead you to ask, “What is really the best fertilizer to use this time of year?”. 

The owner of The Home & Garden Store has been in the landscape and nursery industry for over 49 years and has tried many brands of fertilizers over the years.  There are two brands that I keep going back too.  One of my favorite fertilizers to use during the fall and early winter season is Ferti-lome "Winterizer".  For nearly 60 years, the Ferti-lome brand has been in existence serving farmers and the urban community. And Ferti-lome Winterizer fertilizer has been one of the best performing fertilizers I have used.  Reputable garden centers/nurseries throughout the United States recommend Ferti-lome brand chemicals and fertilizers because of its outstanding qualities. 

During the past few years, a number of customers as well as employees at our garden center have used IFA "Fall and Winter" fertilizer and stated they had great success with this product and other IFA (Intermountain Farmers Association) products. This company is based out of Utah, so they understand the conditions that exist in our dry, arid climate and the high alkaline soil we have in this region of the country.  

Both of these products were developed by farmers who make their living using fertilizers and chemicals on their crops.  VPG (Ferti-lome) and IFA spend a vast amount of money on developing quality products and not on a large advertising budget.
