Petunias are one of the most popular annual plants we sell at The Home & Garden Store. They thrive in full sun and are quite easy to grow and care for. To obtain good blooming and keep them looking as they are here at the garden center, there are a couple of things that we suggest.
1. Petunias like full sun and adequate watering! This isn’t just important for petunias, but for many sun plants.
2. Fertilizer – We recommend Ferti-lome “Premium Bedding Plant Food” when planting them and after 3 weeks, feed them with Ferti-lome “Blooming & Rooting Food”. The Premium Bedding Plant Food provides for the overall health of a plant and the Blooming & Rooting Food is great for acquiring beautiful blooms throughout the blooming season. Apply the later product every 7 to 10 days throughout the growing season.
3. Check regularly for budworm. If petunias stop blooming and they are watered and fertilized as they should be, it’s likely budworm. Spray with Bonide “Liquid Systemic Insecticide”. Apply once every 3 to 4 weeks. Always read and follow manufactures directions when using any chemical or fertilizer.
Annuals are typically found during the months of April and continuing into mid-summer at our garden center. Treat petunias well and they will respond with beautiful, great-looking blooms all summer long (when you buy plants from The Home & Garden Store, we provide our customers with complete planting instructions).
