A New Chapter in the Garden

Retirement… But Not Goodbye

After many wonderful years of full-time service at The Home & Garden Store in Boise, I have officially retired from my full-time role at the nursery.

The Home & Garden Store has been more than just a place of employment — it has been a community hub, a classroom, and a gathering place for gardeners throughout the Treasure Valley. I’ve had the privilege of helping customers select the right tree, diagnose plant problems, design landscapes, and celebrate gardening successes season after season.

But while I’ve retired from full-time service, I have not retired from the nursery industry.

I’m pleased to share that I have accepted a part-time position with Victory Gardens in Meridian, where I will be helping customers solve gardening problems and select plants proven to thrive in our Treasure Valley climate.

Problem-solving has always been one of my favorite parts of this industry — diagnosing plant issues, recommending the right varieties, improving soil health, and helping gardeners gain confidence. I look forward to continuing that work in this new setting.

For nearly 40 years, I have known Tim and Carol, the previous owners of this nursery, and have the utmost respect for both of them. In the past couple of years, Tim and Carol have turned the operations of this nursery over to their daughter, Jasmine, and son-in-law, Chase. The two are making their own mark in the nursery industry while continuing the strong foundation that was built before them.

When you stop by Victory Gardens, you'll find it's a place to pick up a cup of deciduous coffee while you browse their unique garden and gift shop and an array of nursery stock that’s proven for the Treasure Valley. And if you have a question about where or how to plant and maintain your purchase, I’ll be there to guide you.

As many of you (our gardening friends at The Home & Garden Store) know, I am an Idaho Certified Nurseryman with more than 50 years of landscape and nursery experience. Helping gardeners succeed has always been my passion, and that hasn’t changed.

It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, enjoy the atmosphere, and leave inspired.

When I was visiting their site a few days ago, Tim was there constructing a beautiful little wedding chapel. So, if you're thinking about a possible marriage, this just might be the place to do so. The chapel features a charming small pond filled with goldfish and koi, along with a grassy green lawn for your guests — plus additional amenities you can enjoy now and some that are planned for the future. It’s another example of the care and creativity that continues to shape this special nursery.

Looking for gardening tools? We have shovels, rakes, hoes garden hose and more. Do you need gloves, garden chemicals, fertilizers, peat moss, potting soils, garden arbors or garden decor? We have all that and more.

Over The Years...

After selling FarWest Garden Center in Boise, I started another company known as The Home & Garden Store in late 1999 as a proprietorship and later changed it to an LLC. Shown below are pictures from the store on W. Chinden Blvd. in Boise and a few of the location on S. Cloverdale Rd. in Boise. The retail store on Cloverdale is about 1/5 the size of the store on Chinden, but it's big enough when you're somewhat retired.
